APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR THE ASIA

FOREIGN STUDY SCHOLARSHIP

(HAINAN HUA YE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM)

The Asia Foreign Study Scholarship (Hainan Hua Ye Scholarship Program) is a partial scholarship program sponsored by Hainan Hua Ye Project Strategy Co. Ltd., Hainan University Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and the College of International Cultural Exchange administer the recruitment and routine management of the program.

20 partial scholarships are provided for Asian countries for the 2007/2008 academic year.

1.       Types of Applicants, Duration of Scholarship and Language of Instruction

1)       This program is only available for bachelor’s degree;

2)       The duration of this scholarship depends on the major for which the candidates apply;

3)       Applicants’ Chinese language level must meet the need for academic course tutoring as all Courses will be taught in Chinese only.

2. Application

Applicants should apply to the Education Forum for Asia (Individual Application will not be accepted). Applications are accepted from the beginning of January to the end of April.

3. Eligibility

1) Applicants must be nationals from Asia-Pacific Countries or non-Chinese citizen of Hainan ancestry;

2) Applicants must be in good health;

3) Educational background and age limits:

★Applicants must have high school diploma or above and be under the age of 30.

4.  Details of the Scholarship

1) This partial scholarship will cover of tuition fee and all accommodations during the whole study process.

2) Admitted applicants will be responsible for all other expenses.

5.  Application Materials

All Applicants must provide the following materials correctly and truthfully.

a) Application Form for Asia foreign Study Scholarship (Hainan Hua Ye Scholarship Program) (printed by Education Forum for Asia), one original and one photocopy, in Chinese or in English;

b) Application Form for Admission to Hainan University (printed by International Cultural Exchange College of Hainan University) one original and one photocopy, in Chinese or in English;

c) A notarized copy of highest diploma.  If applicants are university students or already employed, they should also provide verification documents.  Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must have translations in Chinese or English;

d) Two letters of recommendation written by two professors or associate professors, in either Chinese or English;

e) A study or research plan written in Chinese or English (no less than 400 words).

f) A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form (only for those whose period of study in China lasts over six months) filled out in English. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital or a stamped photograph of the applicant will be considered invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for 6 months. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration when determining the time to take the medical examination;

g) 3 photocopies of passport.

The abovementioned materials should be mailed by the China Embassies or the Hainan Associations in relevant countries and received by the Education Forum for Asia by April 30th. Application materials will not be returned regardless of whether or not the applicants are accepted by a Chinese institution.

6.  Selection of Institutions and Discipline

7.  Approval and Notification

1)  The Education Forum for Asia will review all the application materials from the appointed authorities and is authorized to make necessary adjustments on the applied institutions, disciplines and duration of study. Qualified applications will be forwarded to Hainan Hua Ye Project Strategy Co., Ltd, and the final decision whether to admit the applicants or not will be made. The application will be seen as invalid and will not be processed if the applicants are not qualified, the application materials are inconsistent with the recruitment regulations, or are incomplete.

2) Finalized placements, disciplines and duration of studies are, in principle, not to be changed.

3) The List of Enrolled Students, Admission Notice, and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW202) will be sent to the relevant dispatching authorities by July 31, so as to have these documents forwarded to the students.
