APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR

THE ASIA FOREIGN STUDY SCHOLARSHIP

(BEIJING FOREIGN STUDIES UNIVERSITY PROGRAM-CHINA)

The Asia Foreign Study Scholarship (Beijing Foreign Studies University Program-China) is a full scholarship program donated to Education Forum for Asia by Beijing Foreign Studies University. Education Forum for Asia and Beijing Foreign Studies University administers the recruitment and routine management of the program.

2 full scholarships are provided for the 2006/2007 academic year.

1.  Types of Applicants, Duration of Scholarship, and Language of Instruction

1) This program sponsors only Chinese learning.

2) Duration of scholarship: 1 year.

3) All courses will be taught in Chinese.

2.  Application

Applicants should apply to Education Forum for Asia via the Chinese embassy in their home country or the embassy of their home country in China. Applications will be accepted from the beginning of January to the end of April.

3.  Eligibility

1)  Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in good health.

2)  No special requirements for educational Background and Age Limits.

4.  Details of the Scholarship

1) This partial scholarship covers tuition (or research) fees and accommodation.

2) A living allowance is paid monthly to the students by the institute at the following rates:

800 RMB/month

5.  Application Materials

The applicants must provide the following materials correctly and truthfully.

1) Application Form for Asia Foreign Study Scholarship (printed by Education Forum for Asia), one original and one photocopy, in Chinese or in English.

2) Application Form for Beijing Foreign Studies University Study in China, one original and one photocopy, in Chinese or in English.

3) Notarized copy of highest diploma and academic record. If applicants are university students or already employed, they should also provide verification documents.  Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must have attached Chinese or English translations.  Transcripts (notarized copy); transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must have attached Chinese or English translations.

4) Senior scholars must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English by two professors or associate professors.

5)  A study or research plan written in Chinese or English (no less than 400 words).

6) A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form (only for those whose period of study in China lasts over six months) filled out in English. Medical examinations must cover all the items listed on the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital, or a stamped photograph of the applicant will be considered invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for 6 months. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration when determining the time to take the medical examination.

The abovementioned materials should be received by the Education Forum for Asia by April 30^th. Application materials will not be returned regardless of whether the applicant is accepted or not.

6.  Selection of Discipline

Applicants may choose Chinese language as their major. Relevant details can be found on the website at http://www.bfsu.edu.cn. 

7.  Approval and Notification

1) Education Forum for will review all application materials. The application will be seen as invalid and will not be processed if the applicants are not qualified, the application materials are inconsistent with recruitment regulations, or materials are incomplete.

2) Finalized placements, disciplines and duration of study are, in principle, not to be changed.

3) Education Forum for Asia will have the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW202) sent to the applicant by July 31^st.
